Is Traditional Marketing Still Relevant?
Traditional marketing referring to the marketing activities before the digital evolution in early 2000.
Glossy magazine print ads, flashy television commercials
with catchy jingles and slogan were the perfect combo to make featured products
sold like hotcake. The roadshow and direct contact between the brand (product /
service) adds the emotional sentiments to engage and secure the brand loyalty.
Digital era disrupts this perfect and not too complicated activation.
With social medias, improve accessibility to information, big data and marketing
influencers, segmentation and personalization become the needs of the consumers
to look for authentic experience and connection with the brand they believe in.
Generic advertising messages no longer deliver the magic they used to be.
New landscape and digital components do not negate the
important of traditional marketing. The core value of the relationship between
the brand and the consumers remains the same – the quality and the unique selling
points that the brand can offer. Instead, current development offers more
channels and platforms for customer to connect, via the way that they feel most
comfortable. For marketers, digital marketing comes with more accurate measurement
(ROI).
It is important for the brand to understand their core value
and uniqueness before they could form the “ideal” mix of traditional and
digital mix roadmap to promote their brands and to achieve the set objectives.
Digital platform might not be a perfect platform to showcase
products / services craftmanship, the care and sentimental elements of each
product / service; Traditional channel is difficult to create a buzz within
short period and drive sales in huge scale like digital platforms.
Integrate the best from both will increase your campaign success
rate.
